Women’s Soccer:
Long Beach falls to No. 6 nationally-ranked Cerritos, 3-0

The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to visiting Cerritos College on Friday in a South Coast Conference game at LBCC.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 3-1 in conference play and 6-4-1 overall. Cerritos improved to 10-1 and 3-1 in the SCC.

Cerritos scored all three of its goals in the first half. Thirteen minutes into the contest, Ruby Leon put the Falcons on the scoreboard with her goal off the pass from Viridiana Ortega.

Jessica Ortiz had an unassisted goal in the 19th minute and Nancy Gandarilla made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute with her breakaway goal after a pass from Tatiana Cortes.

LBCC turned up the pressure in the second half, but couldn’t crak the Cerritos defense. The Falcons went on to outshoot the Vikings by a 20-5 margin.

Cerritos’ Erika Trejo and Laura Ropp (3 saves) combined for the shutout. Sophomore Ileana Aparicio totaled eight saves in goal for Long Beach.
