No. 1 Vikings post 15th shutout, beat Mt. San Antonio 2-0 at home
The No. 1 nationally-ranked Long Beach City College women’s soccer team cruised to a 2-0 South Coast Conference win at home over visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Friday.
The win was LBCC’s 15th shutout of the season and improved its national junior college-record unbeaten streak to 97 games.
After a scoreless first half, the Vikings got on the board in the 49th minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Mallory Olloque (Millikan HS).
Freshman defender Catherine Gray (Kennedy HS) sent a long pass down the center of the field that bounced in front of the goal. Olloque got a knee on the ball and deflected it past Mt. SAC goalie Vanessa Suarez for her 21st goal of the season to give the Vikings the 1-0 lead.
Freshman forward Shaneka Gordon (Bronx, NY) also scored her 21st goal of the year, giving the Vikings a 2-0 advantage in the 60th minute. Sophomore forward Brittany Jensen (Kennedy HS) fed Gordon with a long breakaway pass for the assist.
For Mt. SAC (12-6-1, 4-4-1 SCC), Suarez made nine saves in goal in 63 minutes of play. On offense, the Mounties managed to take just three shots throughout the game.
The win improved Long Beach to 19-0-2 overall and 8-0-1 in conference play. The Vikings return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 8) when they travel to Cerritos College for a 3 p.m. SCC game.
