Women’s Soccer:
No. 12 Long Beach travels to No. 5 Cuyamaca for SoCal playoff game
The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team drew the No. 12 seed and will travel to face No. 5 Cuyamaca College in an opening round Southern California Regional Playoff game on Saturday (Nov. 17) at 2 pm.
The LBCC women will be making their eight straight postseason appearance and look to capture the program’s seventh state championship.
Long Beach enters the contest with a 14-4-3 overall record and finished third in the South Coast Conference with a 7-4-1 record.
Cuyamaca is 15-5-1 overall and was second in the Pacific Coast Conference with a 13-3-0 record.
The two teams have met three times overall and twice in the playoffs since 2001.
In 2004, LBCC cruised past Cuyamaca 7-0 in an early-season tournament game in Ventura.
In 2001 and 2003, LBCC hosted Cuyamaca in round 3 of the SoCal regionals. The Vikings beat Cuyamaca 1-0 in overtime in 2001 and were 2-0 winners in 2003.
The winner of Saturday’s game advances to face the winner of No. 4 Victor Valley and No. 13 San Bernardino Valley. The highest seeded team would host the game next Tuesday (Nov. 20) at 2 pm. |
