Baumler shares swimmer of the meet honors; LBCC women second, men third at SCC Finals
Long Beach City College sophomore Jaime Baumler was named the South Coast Coast Tri-Swimmer of the Meet with her impressive weekend at last week’s SCC championships at Pasadena City College.
Baumler led the LBCC women to a second place team finish with 469 points while the Viking men were third with 485 points.
More importantly, Long Beach has qualified 14 for this weekend’s California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Swimming and Diving Championships at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
Baumler won three events at the SCC finals, capturing the 50 yard freestyle (25.22), 200 yard freestyle (2:00.83), and the 100 yard freestyle (55.00).
She also paced the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams to first place and was also a member of the second-place 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay squads.
Baumler will compete in her three events as well as all four relays at the state championships.
Also qualifying for the women as an individual is Jenna Stain. She will compete at state in the 100 yard freestyle after taking third place (55.97) at conference as well as in the 50 yard butterfly after finish in fourth place (28.87) at the SCC meet.
On the men’s side, sophomore Damjan Dudic also had a big weekend to lead the Vikings to a third place team finish.
Dudic took first place in the 50 yard freestyle (21.45) and 100 yard freestyle (47.19). He also took second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.40.
He will compete in all three events at the state championships.
Also, freshman Kenji Miyahara will see action in a pair of events at Saddleback. He was fourth at the SCC finals in the 200 yard butterfly (2:02.21) and finished sixth in the 100 yard butterfly at 55.11.
The three-day state championship meet begins on Thursday (May 1) and runs until Saturday. |
