Men's and Women’s Tennis:
Petero, Stern cap standout seasons at state championships
The Long Beach City College women’s tennis season came to a close after freshmen Courtney Petero and Kim Stern suffered early-round losses at last weekend’s (May 8-10) California Community College Athletic Association Tennis Championships at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
In singles action, Petero cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 opening-round win over Jackie Thompson of Sierra College. But in the quarterfinals, Petero fell to Vanessa Reibstein of Grossmont for the third time season. Reibstein took the match 6-2, 6-1.
Petero and Stern teamed up in doubles but suffered a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 opening-round loss to Santa Rosa’s Laura Erickson and Kim Cacase.
Petero and Stern were LBCC’s first state championships qualifiers since 2002. |
