Women’s Water Polo:
Battle at the Beach gets underway on Friday
Seven of the state’s top 10 women’s water polo teams will be in action this weekend at the 8th Annual Tru-West Battle at the Beach tournament. The two-day, 16-team event is hosted by Long Beach City College and Golden West College.
The action gets underway on Friday (Oct. 21) with 10 a.m. games at LBCC and Golden West.
The state’s top four teams will be in action, including No. 1 Riverside, No. 2 Long Beach, No. 3 Orange Coast and No. 4 Chaffey. Other teams competing at the event ranked among the state’s top 10 are No. 6 Sierra, No. 8 Saddleback, and No. 9 Mt. San Antonio.
Each team will play two pool play games on Friday. The top two teams from each pool move on to the championship bracket and play at Long Beach State University. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Consolation bracket games will be played on Saturday at LBCC, beginning at 7 a.m.
Last year, Long Beach upset Riverside 6-4 in the championship final to capture the tournament title.
